Face Vase

Objectives:
  • Identify symmetry in vase shape ( symmetry, vertical axis, asymmetrical)
  • Design and create  a symmetrical mask from a photo of the student
  • Learn about still life paintings through out history
  • To relate vase setting to their own personality and life
Materials:
  •   Photo of each student xeorox print
  •   scissors
  •   glue
  •   watercolor paper
  •   watercolor paints, brushes, etc
  •   Construction paper for collage elements
  •   Paper for background mounting
  •   Images of flowers for drawing reference
  •   Powerpoint of still life images and examples of floral vases

Process:

(Before this project begins, take profile photos of students and print.)
3-4 week project.
Discuss still life paintings and show examples.
Show a vase and find the line of symmetry or vertical axis. 
Discuss how the artist showed the same lines and shapes on both sides.
Show how to make a symmetrical vase from a piece of paper folded in half.
Discuss elements included in the still life paintings and what items they might choose to add to their personal still life.
Students will create a table, background, and paint flowers to add to their image.
